1
And an ish from the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as an ishah.
2
And the woman conceived and brought forth a son. And she saw that he was good, and she hid him three months.
3
And when she was no longer able to hide him, she took for him an ark of papyrus, coated it with bitumen and pitch, placed the child within it, and set it among the reeds by the bank of the River.
4
And his sister stood at a distance, to know what would be done to him.
5
And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the River, and her young women walked beside the River. And she saw the ark among the reeds and sent her maidservant, and she took it.
6
And she opened it and saw the child, and see: the boy was weeping. And she had compassion upon him and said, “This is one of the children of the Ivrim.”
7
And his sister said to the daughter of Pharaoh, “Shall I go and call for you a nursing woman from the Ivrit women, that she may nurse the child for you?”
8
And the daughter of Pharaoh said to her, “Go.” And the young woman went and called the mother of the child.
9
And the daughter of Pharaoh said to her, “Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” And the woman took the child and nursed him.
10
And the child grew, and she brought him to the daughter of Pharaoh, and he became her son. And she called his name Mosheh, and said, “Because I drew him out from the waters.”
11
And it came to pass in those days, when Mosheh had grown, that he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. And he saw a Mitzri ish striking an Ivri ish, one of his brothers.
12
And he turned this way and that, and saw that there was no ish. And he struck the Mitzri and hid him in the sand.
13
And he went out on the second day, and see: two Ivrim were struggling together. And he said to the wicked one, “Why do you strike your companion?”
14
And he said, “Who set you as prince and judge over us? Are you saying you will kill me as you killed the Mitzri?” And Mosheh feared and said, “Surely the matter is known.”
15
And Pharaoh heard of this matter and sought to kill Mosheh. But Mosheh fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midyan. And he sat by a well.
16
And the kohen of Midyan had seven daughters. And they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to give drink to the flock of their father.
17
And the shepherds came and drove them away. But Mosheh rose and delivered them, and gave their flock drink.
18
And they came to Reuel their father, and he said, “Why have you hurried to come today?”
19
And they said, “A Mitzri ish delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and drawing, he also drew water for us and gave the flock drink.”
20
And he said to his daughters, “And where is he? Why is this that you left the ish? Call him, that he may eat bread.”
21
And Mosheh was willing to dwell with the ish, and he gave Tzipporah his daughter to Mosheh.
22
And she brought forth a son, and he called his name Gershom, for he said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.”
23
And it came to pass in those many days that the king of Mitzrayim died. And the sons of Yisra’el groaned because of the service, and they cried out; and their cry because of the service went up to Elohim.
24
And Elohim heard their groaning, and Elohim remembered His covenant with Avraham, with Yitzchaq, and with Yaaqov.
25
And Elohim saw the sons of Yisra’el, and Elohim knew.
