1
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
2
“Set apart to Me every firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the sons of Yisra’el, both of Adam and of beast. It is Mine.”
3
And Mosheh said to the people, “Remember this day in which you came out from Mitzrayim, from the house of servitude, for by strength of hand Yahuah brought you out from here. And nothing leavened shall be eaten.
4
Today you are going out, in the month of Aviv.
5
And it shall be, when Yahuah brings you into the land of the Kena’ani, the Chitti, the Emori, the Chivvi, and the Yevusi, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall serve this service in this month.
6
Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to Yahuah.
7
Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days, and nothing leavened shall be seen with you, nor shall leaven be seen with you throughout all your territory.
8
And you shall tell your son on that day, saying, ‘It is because of what Yahuah did for me when I came out from Mitzrayim.’
9
And it shall be for you as a sign upon your hand and as a remembrance between your eyes, so that the Torah of Yahuah may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand Yahuah brought you out from Mitzrayim.
10
And you shall guard this statute at its appointed time from year to year.
11
And it shall be, when Yahuah brings you into the land of the Kena’ani, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you,
12
then you shall cause every one that opens the womb to pass over to Yahuah, and every firstborn offspring of a beast that belongs to you. The males belong to Yahuah.
13
And every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb. And if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And every firstborn of Adam among your sons you shall redeem.
14
And it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ then you shall say to him, ‘By strength of hand Yahuah brought us out from Mitzrayim, from the house of servitude.
15
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh hardened himself against sending us away, that Yahuah put to death every firstborn in the land of Mitzrayim, from the firstborn of Adam even to the firstborn of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to Yahuah every male that opens the womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’
16
And it shall be as a sign upon your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand Yahuah brought us out from Mitzrayim.”
17
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh sent the people away, that Elohim did not lead them by the way of the land of the Pelishtim, though it was near, for Elohim said, “Lest the people change their mind when they see war and return to Mitzrayim.”
18
And Elohim turned the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Sea of Reeds. And the sons of Yisra’el went up armed from the land of Mitzrayim.
19
And Mosheh took the bones of Yosef with him, for making swear, Yosef had made the sons of Yisra’el swear, saying, “Visiting, Elohim will surely visit you, and you shall bring my bones up from here with you.”
20
And they journeyed from Sukkot and encamped at Etam, at the edge of the wilderness.
21
And Yahuah went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them on the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night.
22
The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people.
