1
And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the sons of Yisra’el came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Mitzrayim.
2
And all the congregation of the sons of Yisra’el murmured against Mosheh and against Aharon in the wilderness.
3
And the sons of Yisra’el said to them, “Who would have given that we had died by the hand of Yahuah in the land of Mitzrayim, when we sat beside the pots of flesh, when we ate bread to fullness! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to put this whole assembly to death with hunger.”
4
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “See, I am raining bread for you from the heavens. And the people shall go out and gather the matter of a day in its day, so that I may test them, whether they will walk in My Torah or not.
5
And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as what they gather day by day.”
6
And Mosheh and Aharon said to all the sons of Yisra’el, “At evening you shall know that Yahuah brought you out from the land of Mitzrayim.
7
And in the morning you shall see the glory of Yahuah, because He hears your murmurings against Yahuah. And what are we, that you murmur against us?”
8
And Mosheh said, “When Yahuah gives you flesh to eat in the evening and bread to fullness in the morning, because Yahuah hears your murmurings that you murmur against Him—what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahuah.”
9
And Mosheh said to Aharon, “Say to all the congregation of the sons of Yisra’el, ‘Draw near before Yahuah, for He has heard your murmurings.’”
10
And it came to pass, as Aharon spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Yisra’el, that they turned toward the wilderness, and see: the glory of Yahuah appeared in the cloud.
11
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
12
“I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Yisra’el. Speak to them, saying, ‘Between the evenings you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am Yahuah your Elohim.’”
13
And it came to pass at evening that quail came up and covered the camp. And in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp.
14
And when the layer of dew went up, see: upon the face of the wilderness was a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost upon the earth.
15
And the sons of Yisra’el saw it and said, each ish to his brother, “Man hu?” for they did not know what it was. And Mosheh said to them, “This is the bread that Yahuah has given you to eat.
16
This is the matter that Yahuah has commanded: ‘Gather from it, each ish according to his eating, an omer for each person, according to the number of your persons; each of you shall take for those who are in his tent.’”
17
And the sons of Yisra’el did so, and they gathered, some much and some little.
18
And they measured it with an omer. And the one who gathered much had no excess, and the one who gathered little had no lack. Each ish gathered according to his eating.
19
And Mosheh said to them, “Let no ish leave any of it until morning.”
20
But they did not listen to Mosheh, and some men left from it until morning. And it bred worms and stank. And Mosheh was angry with them.
21
And they gathered it morning by morning, each ish according to his eating. And when the sun grew hot, it melted.
22
And it came to pass on the sixth day that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each person. And all the leaders of the congregation came and told Mosheh.
23
And he said to them, “This is what Yahuah has spoken: ‘Tomorrow is a rest, a holy Shabbat to Yahuah. What you will bake, bake; and what you will boil, boil. And all that remains over, set aside for yourselves to be guarded until morning.’”
24
And they set it aside until morning, according to what Mosheh commanded, and it did not stink, nor was there any worm in it.
25
And Mosheh said, “Eat it today, for today is a Shabbat to Yahuah. Today you will not find it in the field.
26
Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is Shabbat; there shall be none on it.”
27
And it came to pass on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none.
28
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “How long will you refuse to guard My commandments and My Torah?
29
See, because Yahuah has given you the Shabbat, therefore on the sixth day He gives you bread for two days. Let every ish remain in his place; let no ish go out from his place on the seventh day.”
30
And the people rested on the seventh day.
31
And the house of Yisra’el called its name Man. And it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers made with honey.
32
And Mosheh said, “This is the matter that Yahuah has commanded: ‘Fill an omer from it to be guarded throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out from the land of Mitzrayim.’”
33
And Mosheh said to Aharon, “Take one vessel and place a full omer of Man in it, and set it before Yahuah to be guarded throughout your generations.”
34
As Yahuah commanded Mosheh, so Aharon set it before the Testimony to be guarded.
35
And the sons of Yisra’el ate the Man forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the Man until they came to the border of the land of Kena’an.
36
And an omer is one-tenth of an ephah.
