1
And all the congregation of the sons of Yisra’el journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, according to their journeys by the mouth of Yahuah, and they encamped at Refidim. And there was no water for the people to drink.
2
And the people contended with Mosheh and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.” And Mosheh said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you test Yahuah?”
3
And the people thirsted there for water, and the people murmured against Mosheh and said, “Why is this that you brought us up from Mitzrayim, to put me and my sons and my livestock to death with thirst?”
4
And Mosheh cried out to Yahuah, saying, “What shall I do with this people? A little more and they will stone me.”
5
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Pass over before the people, and take with you from the elders of Yisra’el. And take in your hand your staff with which you struck the River, and go.
6
See, I will stand before you there upon the rock at Chorev. And you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out from it, and the people shall drink.” And Mosheh did so before the eyes of the elders of Yisra’el.
7
And he called the name of the place Massah and Merivah, because of the contention of the sons of Yisra’el, and because they tested Yahuah, saying, “Is Yahuah in our midst or not?”
8
And Amaleq came and fought with Yisra’el at Refidim.
9
And Mosheh said to Yehoshua, “Choose men for us and go out; fight with Amaleq. Tomorrow I will stand upon the top of the hill with the staff of Elohim in my hand.”
10
And Yehoshua did according to what Mosheh said to him, to fight with Amaleq. And Mosheh, Aharon, and Chur went up to the top of the hill.
11
And it came to pass, when Mosheh raised his hand, that Yisra’el prevailed; and when he lowered his hand, Amaleq prevailed.
12
But the hands of Mosheh became heavy. And they took a stone and placed it beneath him, and he sat upon it. And Aharon and Chur supported his hands, one on this side and one on that side, and his hands remained steady until the setting of the sun.
13
And Yehoshua weakened Amaleq and his people with the edge of the sword.
14
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Write this as a remembrance in the sefer, and place it in the ears of Yehoshua: erasing, I will erase the remembrance of Amaleq from beneath the heavens.”
15
And Mosheh built an altar and called its name Yahuah-Nissi.
16
And he said, “Because a hand is upon the throne of Yah: war belongs to Yahuah against Amaleq from generation to generation.”
