1
And these are the judgments that you shall set before them:
2
“If you acquire an Ivri servant, six years he shall serve, and in the seventh he shall go out free, without payment.
3
If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he was the husband of an ishah, then his ishah shall go out with him.
4
If his master gives him an ishah, and she bears him sons or daughters, the ishah and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall go out by himself.
5
But if saying, the servant says, ‘I love my master, my ishah, and my sons; I will not go out free,’
6
then his master shall bring him to the elohim, and he shall bring him to the door or to the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl, and he shall serve him perpetually.
7
And if an ish sells his daughter as a female servant, she shall not go out as the male servants go out.
8
If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who designated her for himself, then he shall allow her to be redeemed. He shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, because he has dealt faithlessly with her.
9
And if he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the judgment of daughters.
10
If he takes another ishah for himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her marital right.
11
And if he does not do these three for her, then she shall go out freely, without silver.
12
Whoever strikes an ish so that he dies, dying, he shall surely die.
13
But if he did not lie in wait, and Elohim caused it to come into his hand, then I will appoint for you a place to which he may flee.
14
But if an ish acts presumptuously against his neighbor, to kill him with deceit, you shall take him even from My altar, that he may die.
15
And whoever strikes his father or his mother, dying, he shall surely die.
16
And whoever steals an ish and sells him, or he is found in his hand, dying, he shall surely die.
17
And whoever curses his father or his mother, dying, he shall surely die.
18
And if men contend, and one strikes his companion with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but falls upon his bed,
19
if he rises and walks outside upon his staff, then the one who struck him shall be cleared. Only he shall pay for his loss of time and healing, he shall cause him to be healed.
20
And if an ish strikes his male servant or his female servant with a rod, and the servant dies beneath his hand, avenging, he shall surely be avenged.
21
Yet if the servant remains alive a day or two, he shall not be avenged, for he is his silver.
22
And if men fight and strike a pregnant ishah, and her children come out, but there is no further harm, fining, he shall surely be fined according to what the husband of the ishah lays upon him, and he shall give according to the judges.
23
But if there is harm, then you shall give life for life,
24
eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25
burning for burning, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
26
And if an ish strikes the eye of his male servant or the eye of his female servant and destroys it, he shall send the servant away free because of the eye.
27
And if he knocks out the tooth of his male servant or the tooth of his female servant, he shall send the servant away free because of the tooth.
28
And if an ox gores an ish or an ishah and that one dies, stoning, the ox shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten. But the owner of the ox shall be guiltless.
29
But if the ox was accustomed to gore in times past, and its owner was warned but did not guard it, and it kills an ish or an ishah, the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.
30
If a ransom is laid upon him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is laid upon him.
31
Whether it gores a son or gores a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him.
32
If the ox gores a male servant or a female servant, thirty sheqels of silver shall be given to the servant’s master, and the ox shall be stoned.
33
And if an ish opens a pit, or if an ish digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,
34
the owner of the pit shall make restitution. He shall return silver to its owner, and the dead animal shall be his.
35
And if the ox of one ish strikes the ox of his neighbor and it dies, then they shall sell the living ox and divide its silver, and they shall also divide the dead one.
36
Or if it was known that the ox was accustomed to gore in times past, and its owner did not guard it, repaying, he shall surely repay ox for ox, and the dead animal shall be his.
