1
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, “Go, go up from here—you and the people whom you brought up from the land of Mitzrayim—to the land of which I swore to Avraham, to Yitzchaq, and to Yaaqov, saying, ‘To your seed I will give it.’
2
And I will send a messenger before your face, and I will drive out the Kena’ani, the Emori, the Chitti, the Perizzi, the Chivvi, and the Yevusi,
3
to a land flowing with milk and honey. For I will not go up in your midst, because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”
4
And the people heard this evil word, and they mourned, and no ish placed his ornaments upon himself.
5
And Yahuah had said to Mosheh, “Say to the sons of Yisra’el, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. In one moment I could go up in your midst and consume you. And now, remove your ornaments from upon you, and I will know what I shall do to you.’”
6
And the sons of Yisra’el stripped themselves of their ornaments from Mount Chorev onward.
7
And Mosheh would take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far from the camp, and he called it the Tent of Meeting. And it came to pass that everyone seeking Yahuah would go out to the Tent of Meeting that was outside the camp.
8
And it came to pass, whenever Mosheh went out to the tent, that all the people arose, and each ish stood at the entrance of his tent and looked after Mosheh until he entered the tent.
9
And it came to pass, when Mosheh entered the tent, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the entrance of the tent, and He spoke with Mosheh.
10
And all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, and all the people arose and bowed themselves, each ish at the entrance of his tent.
11
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh face to face, as an ish speaks to his companion. And he returned to the camp, but his attendant Yehoshua son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the midst of the tent.
12
And Mosheh said to Yahuah, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring this people up,’ but You have not made known to me whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and also you have found favor in My eyes.’
13
And now, if indeed I have found favor in Your eyes, please make known to me Your way, that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your eyes. And see that this nation is Your people.”
14
And He said, “My presence shall go, and I will give you rest.”
15
And he said to Him, “If Your presence does not go, do not bring us up from here.
16
And by what then shall it be known that I have found favor in Your eyes, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we are distinguished, I and Your people, from every people who are upon the face of the earth?”
17
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “This matter also that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in My eyes, and I know you by name.”
18
And he said, “Please show me Your glory.”
19
And He said, “I will cause all My goodness to pass before your face, and I will proclaim the name of Yahuah before you. And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion upon whom I will have compassion.”
20
And He said, “You are not able to see My face, for Adam shall not see Me and live.”
21
And Yahuah said, “See, there is a place with Me, and you shall stand upon the rock.
22
And it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will place you in the cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with My hand until I have passed by.
23
And I will remove My hand, and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”
