1
And Channah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in Yahuah; my horn is lifted up in Yahuah. My mouth is opened wide against my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation.
2
There is none holy like Yahuah, for there is none besides You, and there is no rock like our Elohim.
3
Do not multiply speaking so proudly, proudly; let arrogance not go out from your mouth. For Yahuah is an El of knowledge, and by Him deeds are weighed.
4
The bows of mighty men are shattered, but those who stumbled are girded with strength.
5
Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, but she who had many sons has languished.
6
Yahuah puts to death and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and causes to rise.
7
Yahuah makes poor and makes rich; He brings low, and He also lifts up.
8
He raises the poor from the dust; from the ash heap He lifts the needy, to cause them to sit with nobles, and He causes them to inherit a throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth belong to Yahuah, and He has set the world upon them.
9
The feet of His faithful ones He guards, but the wicked are silenced in darkness, for not by strength shall an ish prevail.
10
Those who contend with Yahuah shall be shattered; against them He will thunder from the heavens. Yahuah will judge the ends of the earth. And He will give strength to His king, and lift up the horn of His anointed.”
11
And Elqanah went to HaRamah, to his house. And the young man served Yahuah before the face of Eli the kohen.
12
And the sons of Eli were sons of worthlessness; they did not know Yahuah.
13
And the judgment of the kohenim with the people was this: whenever any ish sacrificed a sacrifice, the servant of the kohen would come while the flesh was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.
14
And he would strike it into the basin, or the kettle, or the cauldron, or the pot. All that the fork brought up the kohen would take for himself. Thus they did in Shiloh to all Yisra’el who came there.
15
Even before they caused the fat to go up in smoke, the servant of the kohen would come and say to the ish who was sacrificing, “Give flesh to roast for the kohen, for he will not take boiled flesh from you, but raw.”
16
And if the ish said to him, “Let them first cause the fat to go up in smoke, and then take for yourself according to what your being desires,” then he would say, “No, but you shall give it now; and if not, I will take it by force.”
17
And the sin of the young men was exceedingly great before the face of Yahuah, for the men treated the offering of Yahuah with contempt.
18
But Shemu’el was serving before the face of Yahuah, a young man girded with a linen ephod.
19
And his mother would make for him a little robe and bring it up to him from days to days, when she went up with her ish to sacrifice the sacrifice of the days.
20
And Eli blessed Elqanah and his ishah and said, “May Yahuah establish for you seed from this ishah in place of the request that was asked for Yahuah.” And they went to their place.
21
And Yahuah visited Channah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the young man Shemu’el grew before Yahuah.
22
And Eli was exceedingly old, and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Yisra’el, and how they lay with the women who served at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
23
And he said to them, “Why do you do things such as these? For I hear of your evil deeds from all this people.
24
No, my sons, for the report that I hear is not good. You cause the people of Yahuah to transgress.
25
If an ish sins against an ish, Elohim may intercede for him. But if an ish sins against Yahuah, who will intercede for him?” But they did not listen to the voice of their father, for Yahuah desired to put them to death.
26
And the young man Shemu’el continued growing, and was good both with Yahuah and also with men.
27
And an ish of Elohim came to Eli and said to him, “Thus says Yahuah: Revealing, did I not reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Mitzrayim, in the house of Pharaoh?
28
And I chose him from all the tribes of Yisra’el to be My kohen, to go up upon My altar, to cause incense to go up in smoke, to bear an ephod before My face. And I gave to the house of your father all the offerings by fire of the sons of Yisra’el.
29
Why do you kick at My sacrifice and at My offering, which I commanded in My Dwelling, and honor your sons above Me, making yourselves fat from the first of every offering of Yisra’el My people?
30
Therefore Yahuah, Elohim of Yisra’el, declares: ‘Saying, I surely said that your house and the house of your father would walk before My face forever.’ But now, declares Yahuah: ‘Far be it from Me. For those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.
31
See, days are coming when I will cut off your arm and the arm of the house of your father, so that there shall not be an old ish in your house.
32
And you shall see distress in the Dwelling, amid all the good that He does for Yisra’el, and there shall not be an old ish in your house all the days.
33
Yet the ish of yours whom I do not cut off from My altar shall be to consume your eyes and to grieve your being; and all the increase of your house shall die as men.
34
And this shall be the sign to you that shall come upon your two sons, Chofni and Pinechas: on one day both of them shall die.
35
And I will raise up for Myself a faithful kohen. According to what is in My heart and in My being he shall do. And I will build for him a faithful house, and he shall walk before My anointed all the days.
36
And it shall be that everyone who remains in your house shall come and bow himself to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, “Please attach me to one of the offices of the kehunah, that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”
