1
And Shaul spoke to Yonatan his son and to all his servants, that they should put Daviyd to death. But Yonatan son of Shaul delighted greatly in Daviyd.
2
And Yonatan declared it to Daviyd, saying, “Shaul my father is seeking to put you to death. And now, please guard yourself in the morning, and remain in a secret place and hide yourself.
3
And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak with my father concerning you. And I will see what there is, and I will declare it to you.”
4
And Yonatan spoke good concerning Daviyd to Shaul his father and said to him, “Let not the king sin against his servant, against Daviyd, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works toward you have been exceedingly good.
5
For he placed his being in his palm and struck the Pelishti, and Yahuah worked a great salvation for all Yisra’el. You saw it and rejoiced. And why then will you sin against innocent blood, to put Daviyd to death without cause?”
6
And Shaul listened to the voice of Yonatan, and Shaul swore, “As Yahuah lives, he shall not be put to death.”
7
And Yonatan called Daviyd, and Yonatan declared to him all these words. And Yonatan brought Daviyd to Shaul, and he was before his face as formerly.
8
And war continued again, and Daviyd went out and fought against the Pelishtim and struck them with a great slaughter, and they fled from before his face.
9
And an evil ruach from Yahuah came upon Shaul while he was sitting in his house, with his spear in his hand, and Daviyd was playing with his hand.
10
And Shaul sought to strike Daviyd to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from before the face of Shaul, and he struck the spear into the wall. And Daviyd fled and escaped that night.
11
And Shaul sent messengers to the house of Daviyd to guard him and to put him to death in the morning. And Mikhal his ishah declared it to Daviyd, saying, “If you do not deliver your being tonight, tomorrow you shall be put to death.”
12
And Mikhal let Daviyd down through the window, and he went and fled and escaped.
13
And Mikhal took the terafim and placed it in the bed, and placed a quilt of goats’ hair at its head and covered it with a garment.
14
And Shaul sent messengers to take Daviyd, and she said, “He is sick.”
15
And Shaul sent the messengers again to see Daviyd, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may put him to death.”
16
And the messengers came, and see, the terafim was in the bed, with the quilt of goats’ hair at its head.
17
And Shaul said to Mikhal, “Why have you deceived me thus and sent away my enemy, and he escaped?” And Mikhal said to Shaul, “He said to me, ‘Send me away. Why should I put you to death?’”
18
And Daviyd fled and escaped and came to Shemu’el at HaRamah, and declared to him all that Shaul had done to him. And he and Shemu’el went and dwelt at Navayot.
19
And it was declared to Shaul, saying, “See, Daviyd is at Navayot in HaRamah.”
20
And Shaul sent messengers to take Daviyd. And they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Shemu’el standing as appointed over them. And the Ruach of Elohim came upon the messengers of Shaul, and they also prophesied.
21
And they declared it to Shaul, and he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Shaul again sent messengers a third time, and they also prophesied.
22
And he himself also went to HaRamah, and came as far as the great cistern that is in Sekhu, and asked and said, “Where are Shemu’el and Daviyd?” And one said, “See, at Navayot in HaRamah.”
23
And he went there to Navayot in HaRamah, and the Ruach of Elohim came upon him also, and he went on and prophesied until he came to Navayot in HaRamah.
24
And he also stripped off his garments, and he also prophesied before Shemu’el, and fell naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, “Is Shaul also among the prophets?”
