Book 2 — Chapter 7 — Pilate's Death

Eusebius reports that under Gaius, Pontius Pilate fell into such misfortune that he took his own life. He says the event was known among Greek writers and sees it as divine judgment upon the Roman governor who had condemned Yahushua. Later Pilate legends expanded greatly in multiple languages; Eusebius's notice is much shorter. The chapter is another example of his recurring historiographical pattern: the fate of rulers who opposed the assemblies is interpreted morally, often through a doctrine of providential retribution.
