Book 2 — Chapter 22 — Paulos Is Sent Bound to Rome and Acquitted
Paulos appeals to Caesar and is sent to Rome as a prisoner. Eusebius follows Acts through the voyage and the period in which Paulos lives under guard while openly teaching. Since Acts ends without narrating his death, Eusebius accepts the tradition that Paulos was released after his first defense and later resumed proclamation before being arrested again. He distinguishes the first Roman hearing from the later martyrdom under Nero. The chapter is crucial to Eusebius's chronology of the Pauline letters because it allows for activity after the close of Acts and a second imprisonment.
