Book 6 — Chapter 1 - The Persecution under Severus
Book VI is dominated by Origen and the intellectual life of Alexandria and Caesarea, then the persecutions under Severus, Maximinus, and Decius, with Dionysius of Alexandria becoming a principal witness. The chapter records coercion under Roman or local authority: arrest, interrogation, confiscation, exile, torture, execution, or public pressure. Eusebius praises endurance but also records those who yielded, fled, or were later restored. In this reconstruction the chapter coordinate is preserved as Book 6, Chapter 1, and the full subject is retained under the heading 'The Persecution under Severus'. Names, dates, quoted-source relationships, and political or textual function are kept distinct from Eusebius's own interpretive claims.
