Book 6 — Chapter 42 - Others Named by Dionysius
Book VI is dominated by Origen and the intellectual life of Alexandria and Caesarea, then the persecutions under Severus, Maximinus, and Decius, with Dionysius of Alexandria becoming a principal witness. Eusebius's library work is central here. He names books, quotations, disputed writings, teachers, and chains of reception, often preserving information about works that later disappeared. Dionysius is allowed to speak through long extracts from his own correspondence. These letters preserve first-person evidence for persecution, plague, internal dispute, and the intellectual conflicts of the third century. In this reconstruction the chapter coordinate is preserved as Book 6, Chapter 42, and the full subject is retained under the heading 'Others Named by Dionysius'. Names, dates, quoted-source relationships, and political or textual function are kept distinct from Eusebius's own interpretive claims.
