1
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying to them,
2
“Speak to the sons of Yisra’el, saying: These are the living creatures that you may eat from among all the beasts that are upon the earth.
3
Whatever divides the hoof, and is completely split-footed, and brings up the cud among the beasts, that you may eat.
4
Nevertheless, these you shall not eat from among those that bring up the cud or divide the hoof: the camel, because it brings up the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.
5
And the shafan, because it brings up the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.
6
And the hare, because it brings up the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.
7
And the swine, because it divides the hoof and is split-footed, but it does not bring up the cud; it is unclean to you.
8
From their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They are unclean to you.
9
These you may eat from all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas and in the rivers, these you may eat.
10
But all that have no fins and scales in the seas and in the rivers, from every swarming thing of the waters and from every living being that is in the waters, they are detestable to you.
11
And they shall remain detestable to you. From their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall detest.
12
Whatever has no fins and scales in the waters, it is detestable to you.
13
And these you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are detestable: the eagle, the vulture, and the black vulture,
14
and the kite, and the falcon according to its kind,
15
every raven according to its kind,
16
and the ostrich, and the night hawk, and the sea gull, and the hawk according to its kind,
17
and the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl,
18
and the swan, and the pelican, and the carrion vulture,
19
and the stork, the heron according to its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.
20
Every winged swarming thing that walks upon four shall be detestable to you.
21
Yet these you may eat from every winged swarming thing that walks upon four: those that have jointed legs above their feet, with which to leap upon the earth.
22
These from among them you may eat: the locust according to its kind, and the bald locust according to its kind, and the cricket according to its kind, and the grasshopper according to its kind.
23
But every other winged swarming thing that has four feet shall be detestable to you.
24
And by these you shall become unclean: whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until evening.
25
And whoever carries any of their carcass shall wash his garments and be unclean until evening.
26
Every beast that divides the hoof but is not completely split-footed, and does not bring up the cud, is unclean to you. Everyone who touches them shall be unclean.
27
And whatever walks upon its paws among all the living creatures that walk upon four, they are unclean to you. Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until evening.
28
And whoever carries their carcass shall wash his garments and be unclean until evening. They are unclean to you.
29
And these shall be unclean to you among the swarming things that swarm upon the earth: the weasel, and the mouse, and the great lizard according to its kind,
30
and the gecko, and the monitor lizard, and the wall lizard, and the skink, and the chameleon.
31
These are unclean to you among all the swarming things. Whoever touches them when they are dead shall be unclean until evening.
32
And anything upon which any of them falls when they are dead shall become unclean, whether any vessel of wood, or garment, or skin, or sack—any vessel by which work is done. It shall be put into water and shall be unclean until evening; then it shall be clean.
33
And every earthen vessel into which any of them falls, whatever is within it shall become unclean, and the vessel you shall break.
34
Any food that may be eaten, upon which water from such a vessel comes, shall become unclean; and every drink that may be drunk in any such vessel shall become unclean.
35
And anything upon which any part of their carcass falls shall become unclean. An oven or cooking stove shall be broken down; they are unclean and shall remain unclean to you.
36
Nevertheless a spring or a cistern, a gathering of water, shall be clean. But whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean.
37
And if any part of their carcass falls upon any seed for sowing that is to be sown, it shall remain clean.
38
But if water has been placed upon the seed, and any part of their carcass falls upon it, it is unclean to you.
39
And if any beast that is permitted to you for food dies, whoever touches its carcass shall be unclean until evening.
40
And whoever eats from its carcass shall wash his garments and be unclean until evening. And whoever carries its carcass shall wash his garments and be unclean until evening.
41
And every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth is detestable; it shall not be eaten.
42
Whatever goes upon its belly, and whatever goes upon four, and whatever has many feet, from every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, you shall not eat them, for they are detestable.
43
You shall not make your beings detestable with any swarming thing that swarms, and you shall not make yourselves unclean by them, lest you become unclean through them.
44
For I am Yahuah your Elohim. And you shall set yourselves apart, and you shall be holy, for I am holy. And you shall not make your beings unclean by any swarming thing that moves upon the earth.
45
For I am Yahuah who brought you up from the land of Mitzrayim to be your Elohim. And you shall be holy, for I am holy.
46
This is the Torah concerning the beast, and the bird, and every living being that moves in the waters, and every being that swarms upon the earth,
47
to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the living creature that may be eaten and the living creature that may not be eaten.
