1
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Speak to the kohenim, the sons of Aharon, and say to them: No one shall make himself unclean for a dead being among his people,
2
except for his flesh who is near to him: for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother,
3
and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no ish; for her he may make himself unclean.
4
He shall not make himself unclean as a husband among his people, profaning himself.
5
They shall not make baldness upon their heads, and they shall not shave the edge of their beard, and they shall not cut cuts in their flesh.
6
They shall be holy to their Elohim and shall not profane the name of their Elohim, for the offerings by fire to Yahuah, the bread of their Elohim, they bring near; therefore they shall be holy.
7
They shall not take an ishah who is a prostitute or profaned, and they shall not take an ishah divorced from her husband, for the kohen is holy to his Elohim.
8
And you shall set him apart, for he brings near the bread of your Elohim. He shall be holy to you, for I, Yahuah who sets you apart, am holy.
9
And the daughter of any kohen, if she profanes herself by prostitution, she profanes her father. With fire she shall be burned.
10
And the kohen who is greater than his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured and whose hand was filled to wear the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, and shall not tear his garments.
11
And he shall not go in to any dead being. For his father or for his mother he shall not make himself unclean.
12
And he shall not go out from the sanctuary, nor shall he profane the sanctuary of his Elohim, for the consecration of the anointing oil of his Elohim is upon him. I am Yahuah.
13
And he shall take an ishah in her virginity.
14
A widow, or a divorced woman, or one profaned by prostitution—these he shall not take. But a virgin from his own people he shall take as an ishah,
15
so that he does not profane his seed among his people, for I am Yahuah who sets him apart.”
16
And Yahuah spoke to Mosheh, saying,
17
“Speak to Aharon, saying: No ish from your seed throughout their generations who has a defect shall draw near to bring near the bread of his Elohim.
18
For no ish in whom there is a defect shall draw near: an ish blind, or lame, or disfigured in face, or with a limb too long,
19
or an ish who has a broken foot or a broken hand,
20
or a hunchback, or a dwarf, or one with a defect in his eye, or an itching disease, or a scab, or crushed testicles.
21
No ish from the seed of Aharon the kohen in whom there is a defect shall draw near to bring near the offerings by fire to Yahuah. A defect is in him; he shall not draw near to bring near the bread of his Elohim.
22
The bread of his Elohim, from the most holy and from the holy, he may eat.
23
Only he shall not enter toward the veil, and he shall not draw near to the altar, because a defect is in him, so that he does not profane My holy places, for I am Yahuah who sets them apart.”
24
And Mosheh spoke these things to Aharon and to his sons and to all the sons of Yisra’el.
